BALTIMORE, MD — November 2, 2026 — The Baltimore Ravens are facing serious uncertainty at quarterback after Lamar Jackson suffered a right thumb injury during Sunday’s 36–10 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Head coach Jesse Minter confirmed Monday that Jackson will be placed on injured reserve. The injury occurred on Baltimore’s first offensive play, abruptly ending the two-time NFL MVP’s return after missing three games with an ankle injury.
Jackson has not yet undergone surgery, according to Minter’s Monday evening update. His recovery timetable remains uncertain, and the team has not officially ruled him out for the remainder of the season.
Baltimore’s Quarterback Problems Continue
Jackson isn’t Baltimore’s only concern.
Backup Tyler Huntley suffered a toe injury against Buffalo, while Joe Fagnano played through an injury of his own.
With a Thursday matchup against Jacksonville approaching, Baltimore faces difficult decisions about who will lead its offense.
Minter indicated that Fagnano has a chance to play, but the Ravens have not announced a definitive starter.
MCSN Analysis: Baltimore’s Margin for Error Is Disappearing
The Ravens were already dealing with an inconsistent season. Losing Jackson again makes their situation considerably more difficult.
This is about more than replacing one player. Jackson’s mobility, decision-making and ability to create plays are central to Baltimore’s offensive identity.
The Ravens cannot assume that the next quarterback will reproduce those strengths.
Baltimore’s coaching staff must simplify its approach, protect whoever starts and find ways to remain competitive without relying on Jackson to rescue the offense.
Most importantly, the organization needs to prioritize his long-term recovery rather than rushing him back into another difficult situation.
