CHARLOTTE, N.C. — November 2, 2026 — The Detroit Pistons are making an early statement in the NBA season, and Monday night’s performance against the Charlotte Hornets offered another reason to believe this team is building something special.
Behind 33 points from Cade Cunningham and a dominant offensive performance, Detroit dismantled Charlotte 124-91 at Spectrum Center, improving to 6-1 on the season.
The Pistons shot 57.3% from the field, connected on 18 three-pointers, and turned Charlotte’s mistakes into easy scoring opportunities in a convincing 33-point road victory.
Cade Cunningham Takes Control
Cunningham was the centerpiece of Detroit’s offensive attack, finishing with 33 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and five steals in just over 26 minutes.
The Pistons’ franchise guard was remarkably efficient, shooting 13-of-20 from the field and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.
His impact extended well beyond scoring. Cunningham helped dictate the pace, created opportunities for teammates, and disrupted Charlotte defensively.
For Detroit, this is exactly the type of performance that demonstrates why Cunningham is the centerpiece of the franchise.
And perhaps the most impressive part? He didn’t even need 30 minutes to do it.
Duncan Robinson Provides the Firepower
While Cunningham led the way, Duncan Robinson delivered one of Detroit’s biggest offensive contributions.
Robinson finished with 24 points, knocking down six of his nine three-point attempts.
His perimeter shooting helped stretch Charlotte’s defense and created additional opportunities for Detroit’s offense.
Ausar Thompson added 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Paul Reed contributed 11 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Ron Holland II also scored 11 points off the bench, providing another spark for Detroit’s second unit.
The Pistons finished with 30 assists, highlighting the ball movement that fueled their offensive efficiency.
Detroit’s Defense Makes the Difference
As impressive as Detroit’s offense was, the defensive performance deserves just as much attention.
The Pistons forced Charlotte into 26 turnovers, recorded 15 steals, and held the Hornets to just 38.1% shooting from the field.
Detroit also dominated the transition game, outscoring Charlotte 27-4 in fast-break points.
That combination of defensive pressure and efficient offense made life extremely difficult for the Hornets.
Brandon Miller led Charlotte with 17 points, while Naz Reid added 13.
The Pistons also controlled the paint, outscoring the Hornets 52-36.
A Second-Half Statement
Detroit entered halftime leading 65-54 after scoring 38 points in the second quarter.
But the Pistons weren’t finished.
They opened the second half with a 33-point third quarter while limiting Charlotte to 21 points, extending their advantage to 98-75 heading into the fourth.
Detroit continued to pull away in the final period, outscoring Charlotte 26-16 to complete the blowout.
The Pistons’ largest lead reached 33 points.
MCSN Analysis: Detroit Is Looking Like a Serious Threat
Seven games don’t define an NBA season, but the Pistons are giving Detroit fans plenty to be excited about.
This wasn’t simply a night when Cunningham carried the offense. Detroit demonstrated the ability to win through efficient shooting, defensive pressure, ball movement, and contributions throughout the rotation.
That’s what makes this victory particularly encouraging.
The Pistons didn’t just beat Charlotte. They controlled nearly every major aspect of the game.
Cunningham continues to establish himself as the engine of this team, but Detroit’s supporting cast is showing why the Pistons could be difficult to deal with as the season progresses.
The challenge now is consistency.
Great teams don’t just dominate on their best nights. They find ways to maintain that level of execution against stronger opponents and throughout the grind of an 82-game season.
At 6-1, Detroit has given itself an excellent start.
And if Monday night’s performance is any indication, the Pistons have no intention of slowing down.
What’s Next?
Detroit returns home Wednesday, November 4, to face the Philadelphia 76ers at 7 p.m. ET.
It will be another opportunity for the Pistons to build on their strong start and continue establishing themselves in the Eastern Conference.
Final Score: Detroit Pistons 124, Charlotte Hornets 91
