Pistons’ Furious Second-Half Comeback Falls Short in Game 3, Cavaliers Cut Series Deficit to 2-1
After two impressive wins at Little Caesars Arena, the Detroit Pistons headed to Cleveland looking to take a commanding 3-0 series lead. For much of the night, it looked like Detroit had another comeback in them—but late turnovers and clutch shot-making by Cleveland proved to be the difference as the Cavaliers escaped with a 116-109 victory in Game 3 at Rocket Arena.
Detroit still leads the Eastern Conference Semifinals series 2-1.
Fast Start for Detroit
The Pistons wasted no time setting the tone.
Duncan Robinson opened the game by knocking down a deep three for Detroit’s first points, immediately silencing the Rocket Arena crowd and giving the Pistons early momentum.
Detroit’s defense fueled the offense early, allowing the Pistons to control the tempo and jump out in front.
Cleveland eventually settled in offensively and began finding their rhythm. With Detroit leading 20-19, the Cavaliers grabbed their first lead of the night.
Things got physical early as Daniss Jenkins and Dennis Schroder exchanged words during a brief on-court incident, adding playoff intensity to an already hostile environment.
Detroit responded after a timeout, tightening up defensively and pushing back ahead 30-27, but Cleveland closed the quarter strong to take a 32-30 lead after one.
Cavaliers Dominate the Second Quarter
Cleveland carried that momentum into the second quarter and completely flipped the game.
The Cavaliers came out red hot, knocking down shots while Detroit’s offense suddenly went cold.
The Pistons continued crashing the offensive glass and earned trips to the free throw line, getting into the bonus early in the quarter, but the shots simply would not fall.
Detroit managed just four points early in the quarter and found themselves trailing 41-34.
Despite struggling offensively, the Pistons were fortunate to still be within striking distance at 43-36.
Then Cleveland delivered another punch.
The Cavaliers closed the half on a 7-0 run, feeding off an electric home crowd and taking complete control heading into halftime.

Detroit Flips the Script in the Third
Championship-caliber teams respond—and Detroit did exactly that.
The Pistons came out of halftime with a completely different energy, tightening up defensively and attacking the basket with purpose.
Led by Cade Cunningham, Tobias Harris, and Detroit’s second unit, the Pistons stormed back into the game.
Detroit outscored Cleveland 33-19 in the third quarter, erasing a 16-point deficit and completely flipping the momentum.
By the end of the third, Rocket Arena had gone from roaring to stunned.
Late Turnovers Prove Costly
Detroit carried that momentum into the fourth quarter and looked ready to steal Game 3 on the road.
Midway through the fourth, the Pistons went on a 10-1 run and grabbed a 101-100 lead, putting serious pressure on Cleveland.
But with the game hanging in the balance, costly mistakes changed everything.
Back-to-back Detroit turnovers gave Cleveland extra possessions, and the Cavaliers took full advantage.
With Detroit trailing 108-104, the Pistons called timeout looking for answers.
Then came the dagger.
James Harden knocked down a clutch three-pointer with 25.9 seconds remaining, extending Cleveland’s lead to 113-109 and sending Rocket Arena into a frenzy.
Detroit had one final opportunity after the timeout, drawing up a play for Duncan Robinson, but his three-point attempt missed—and with it, Detroit’s comeback hopes.
