Report: Pistons Land John Collins on Three-Year, $51 Million Deal

The Detroit Pistons have reportedly made another major splash in free agency, agreeing to terms with veteran forward John Collins on a three-year, $51 million contract, according to ESPN.

Detroit identified Collins as its top target to fill the starting power forward role, and the two sides reached an agreement Monday morning through his agents, Sean Kennedy and Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management.

Collins gives the Pistons an athletic, versatile frontcourt presence who excels as a lob finisher, rebounder, and above-the-rim scorer. His arrival also provides All-Star guard Cade Cunningham with another dynamic pick-and-roll partner, adding a new dimension to Detroit’s offense.

The 6-foot-9 forward has averaged 16.0 points and 8.1 rebounds over his NBA career and brings valuable playoff experience after spending time with both the Atlanta Hawks and Utah Jazz.

The signing continues an aggressive offseason for President of Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon. In addition to reportedly re-signing Kevin Huerter, Detroit traded up in the NBA Draft to select guard Ebuka Okorie, acquired center Ugonna Onyenso, and reshaped its frontcourt by trading Isaiah Stewart.

With Collins expected to step into the starting lineup, the Pistons continue to build a roster centered around Cade Cunningham as they look to take another step forward in the Eastern Conference.

Free agency remains active, but Detroit has already addressed one of its biggest offseason priorities by adding a proven starting-caliber power forward.
