SUNRISE, Fla. — The Detroit Red Wings are finding ways to win, and Monday night in Florida provided another example.
Detroit scored twice in a 45-second span early in the third period, breaking a 2–2 tie and holding off the Florida Panthers for a 5–3 victory at Amerant Bank Arena.
Justin Faulk delivered the go-ahead power-play goal, while Michael Brandsegg-Nygard added a goal and an assist as Detroit improved to 7–5–3 and earned its third victory in four games.
The win also snapped Florida’s three-game winning streak.
Detroit Answers Every Florida Push
The Red Wings opened the scoring at 5:26 of the first period when Carter Mazur buried a wrist shot for his first NHL goal. Moritz Seider picked up the assist on the milestone.
Florida answered later in the period when Sam Reinhart tied the game at 1–1.
Detroit regained the lead just 1:26 into the second period. Alex DeBrincat finished a 3-on-1 rush after receiving a pass from Viktor Arvidsson, giving the Red Wings a 2–1 advantage.
But the Panthers refused to go away.
Aaron Ekblad scored a shorthanded goal at 15:25 of the second period, sending the teams into the final 20 minutes tied at two.
That set the stage for Detroit’s biggest stretch of the night.
Faulk and Brandsegg-Nygard Take Control
With Detroit on the power play early in the third period, Faulk capitalized on a pass from Andrew Copp, scoring at 2:08 to put the Red Wings back in front.
Just 45 seconds later, Brandsegg-Nygard charged toward the net and finished a feed from Lucas Raymond to extend Detroit’s lead to 4–2.
Those two goals completely changed the game.
Florida made one final push when Sam Bennett scored with 3:20 remaining, cutting Detroit’s advantage to 4–3.
But the Red Wings protected their lead, and Emmitt Finnie sealed the victory with an empty-net goal.
Young Players Continue Making Their Mark
Beyond the final score, Monday’s game featured encouraging contributions from Detroit’s younger players.
Mazur’s first NHL goal gave the Red Wings an early spark, while Brandsegg-Nygard contributed two points in a pivotal road victory.
Faulk finished with a goal and an assist, Andrew Copp and Moritz Seider each recorded two assists, and goaltender Daniil Tarasov made 23 saves against his former team.
Detroit received contributions throughout its lineup rather than relying on a single offensive star.
MCSN Analysis: Detroit Is Showing Some Fight
The Red Wings have plenty to prove this season, but Monday’s performance deserves recognition.
Detroit surrendered two separate leads and could have allowed Florida to seize momentum. Instead, the Red Wings responded with their strongest offensive sequence when the game mattered most.
The two quick third-period goals showed the kind of urgency Detroit needs to consistently compete.
Perhaps even more encouraging was the production from players like Mazur and Brandsegg-Nygard.
With the organization navigating the uncertainty surrounding Dylan Larkin’s suspension and trade situation, contributions from across the roster become even more important.
One victory doesn’t resolve the larger questions surrounding this team. But winning three of four games, including a road victory over Florida, is meaningful progress.
For Detroit, the challenge now is turning those individual performances into sustained success.
Final: Detroit Red Wings 5, Florida Panthers 3.
